“The impact caused both riders and their passengers to fall onto the road,” he said.

He added that moments later, the oncoming taxi, which was travelling from Jinja towards Kamuli, rammed into the fallen victims, causing fatal injuries.

One of the victims, Geofrey Isabirye, 27, a taxi conductor and resident of Mafubira in Jinja, sustained injuries and is receiving treatment. Another unidentified motorcycle rider was also injured and rushed to hospital.

Police said the taxi driver fled the scene immediately after the crash and is currently on the run, with efforts underway to trace and arrest him.

Officers from Kamuli Police responded to the scene and evacuated the injured to Kamuli General Hospital, where three people were pronounced dead on arrival.

Preliminary findings point to poor coordination at the junction and failure to maintain safe following distances as contributing factors to the crash.

Police have urged road users to exercise caution, particularly at junctions, and to observe traffic regulations to prevent further accidents.

The incident brings the number of road deaths in the Busoga North region to 12 in recent days, following earlier crashes along the Kamuli–Namasagali Road that claimed four lives and another in Buyende that left five people dead.
